Abstract: Abstract As part of research into the demand for urban transport services, special attention is paid to the demand resulting from the implementation of transport needs of an obligatory nature, such as commuting to places of work and study. The research on commuting to places of work and study are carried on in different countries. Noteworthy is the example of Great Britain and Poland. The article presents the methodology of research on commuting to places of work and study as well as the results of research from 2000, 2008 and 2015 carried on in Gdynia. These changes in commuting to places of work and study are significant, since the travel time both to places of work and study has increased. The main mode of travel to work has become the use of own car, instead of travelling by public transport. This is one of the basic conclusions from the analysis carried on in the article.
