Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, we partition all the movies released in Italy over a time of 4 years (2016–2019) into groups with the aim to analyze their performance and their characteristics. Movies released are heterogeneous among them with respect to nationalities, production costs, release strategies, gross box office collections, and the number of screens dedicated. We use original data on all the movies released in Italy over the years from 2016 to 2019 and, using cluster analysis, we identify four clusters of movies, each characterized by different trends. The results allow us to investigate and better understand some aspects of the movie sector in Italy and could suggest areas where cultural policies could be strengthened.
