Managing Green Innovations in European Union: Should We Expect Updates in the Concepts of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Development?

Abstract: Abstract The energy crisis, which is unfolding in the world against the background of the military conflict in Ukraine, is affecting all sectors of the world economy, not limited to the energy sector. Due to the shortage of energy resources, there are redistributions of state and local budgets and company budgets. In many cases, such redistribution can lead to delays, reductions, or cancellations of investments in strategic projects. Many such projects are innovative. Accordingly, the current situation may harm the innovative development of the economy, individual industries, or companies. Due to the complex logistics links inherent in today’s economy, one innovative company’s difficulties can threaten the entire logistics chain. Innovations aimed at achieving sustainable development goals are among the most vulnerable in the current situation. Green innovation can be most negatively affected by global adverse processes. This study analyzes the expected impact of the energy crisis on the logistics chains of innovation products in the European Union. It identifies vulnerabilities in innovation policy that may be significantly affected by economic difficulties due to the energy crisis. However, scientists also see the crisis as an opportunity to develop individual industries or companies. That is why the study, along with the negative consequences of the crisis, identifies promising areas that can benefit from a generally unfavorable economic situation. Assessing the impact of the deteriorating economic situation of European countries due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, which causes, among other things, the global energy crisis, on the prospects of innovative development, updates in the concepts of leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development were carried out using economic and mathematical methods of data analysis obtained from World Data Bank, Eurostat, and other open access sources providing relevant data on innovation. The results of the quantitative analysis were obtained using IBM SPSS Statistics software.
