Abstract:
Abstract The strategic plans for developing the European Union’s energy sector did not take into account the military aggression and the war waged by the Russian Federation in Ukraine that started in February 2022. Energy resources are used as a means of political struggle. The world has faced a new global energy crisis. There are several scenarios for overcoming the crisis. This study focuses on the role of energy innovation in implementing baseline crisis scenarios. It assesses the prospects for achieving SDGs and the long-term goals of the European Union’s energy policy. Renewable Energy and Smart Grids are considered critical components to achieving sustainable development in each scenario. Each scenario is determined based on actual energy policy measures taken by governments and intergovernmental institutions to overcome the crisis and the opinions of experts and leading scientists using up-to-date statistics from The International Energy Agency, the World Data Bank, and Eurostat. Quantitative data analysis methods with SPSS Software were applied to analyze the impact of the business environment on the energy sector. The results of such an analysis are valuable not only for understanding the prospects for the development of the energy sector. They provide a partial answer to the question of achieving the goals of the climate policy and improving the quality of the environment and, accordingly, a deeper understanding of the value caused by the war waged by the Russian Federation of the global energy crisis in Europe and the whole world.
