Use of PLS-SEM Approach in the Construction Management Research

Abstract: Abstract This chapter presents a systematic review of partial least square structural equation modeling in construction management research. The study is done in two parts: bibliometric analysis and full content analysis. The bibliometric analysis outcome reveals that many articles refer to methodological articles primarily talking about SmartPLS usage. In contrast, a small group of articles refers to WarpPLS for their work. Also, the most influential papers are identified concerning the total citation score. Seven domains are identified in the second stage. These domains will provide the direction for the scholars to explore further and take advantage of using PLS-SEM. The results indicate that almost 78% of the articles applied PLS-SEM at the basic level of analysis. Hence, to get better insights into the research work in the construction management area, there exists a broad scope for using PLS-SEM at the advanced level. For example, the use of heterogeneity, higher-order constructs, measurement invariance, cross-validated predictive ability test (CVPAT), endogeneity, confirmatory tetrad analysis, finite mixture analysis, and multiple mediation analysis.
