Abstract:
Abstract We analyzed dynamics of technology collaboration in the thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) to identify whether differences exist between each technology life cycle stage in terms of the university-industry-government (UIG) collaboration and the global collaboration. First, a technology s-curve of the TFT-LCD from previous research was used to define the interval of each stage in the technology life cycle. Next, co-applied TFT-LCD patents were collected, and the number of the patents were measured regarding patent applicants’ UIG type and nationality. As a result, the differences of technology collaboration patterns during the growth stage and the maturity stage of the technology life cycle were identified. Finally, we discussed why each collaboration type mostly appeared at a specific period and how the results might help to establish technology colla policies and analyze a technology life cycle.
