Abstract:
Abstract The tourism industry has witnessed a significant transformation phase with the advent of new technology, under the term FINTECH, providing travelers with enhanced convenience and real-time personalized experiences. These benefits, on the other hand, are usually associated with very heavy costs in terms of loss in privacy and security. In the face of recent incidents involving data breaches and consequent panic about customer data privacy against apparent slow progress in services for personalization, application development aimed at providing security and privacy for users within the tourism industry has become particularly important. This paper discusses two developed applications for tourism enhancements with security provided in privacy, namely SecureTravel and PrivyGuide. By leveraging blockchain to make travel reservations in an anonymous manner when needed, SecureTravel ensures this, whereas smart contract development increases trust between stakeholders while decreasing overall financial management costs. In contrast, PrivyGuide deploys the latest privacy-preserving technologies that are generally deployed for devices to enable personalized travel recommendations without revealing personally identifiable information regarding users. These applications have shown that there is still room to put more innovation and user-friendly services into the tourism sector, while the security and privacy of users are assured. Since it is still evolving, this can become an application that will be able to set the future within the travel industry.
