Abstract: Abstract The accounting profession is undergoing a profound transformation due to the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. As AI systems automate routine tasks and augment decision-making processes, accounting curricula must evolve to equip students with necessary skills and knowledge. This study explores the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into contemporary accounting education. Through a comprehensive literature review, the study identifies essential AI competencies for accounting students, such as digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving. It proposes the AI Competency Adaptation Framework (AICAF) to guide curriculum development. The results highlight benefits like enhanced decision-making, increased efficiency, and personalised learning. However, challenges such as curriculum redesign, faculty development, and ethical issues, including bias risk and job displacement, are also addressed. The study concludes with recommendations for educational institutions, accreditation bodies, and professional organisations to create future-ready graduates. This study highlights the necessity for accounting education to evolve with technological advancements, offering a framework for integrating AI into the curriculum. By addressing these issues, the study contributes to the ongoing discourse on the future of accounting education and provides actionable insights for stakeholders involved in shaping the next generation of accounting professionals.
