Abstract:
Abstract Based on the relevancy of general development of the tourism business, the presented work set a goal of identifying the needs and problems of separate directions of mountain tourism. I stage: Qualitative study - was intended for identification of weighty opinions of official or unofficial parties interested in mountain tourism in regard to mountain tourism problems and possible prospects of development. II stage: Quantitative study - was aimed to quantitative assessment of opinions of travelers and local mountain guides and their reflection in percentage terms, in regard to challenges facing mountain tourism and prospects of this direction. The conducted studies main findings are: uncontrolled building activity initiated in the developed touristic regions - as a hazardous factor, which poses danger to authenticity of the local environment and, as a consequence, its sustainable development; transformation of tourism into the leading sector of economy in the developed touristic regions increased the dependence on this branch. At the very first crisis, this reliance had an adverse effect on the economic conditions of the local population due to sharp decline of touristic flow and loss of the sole source of income under crisis conditions; among positive factors caused by tourism development - remigration of local population of the region, which vivified and newly populated-developed the abandoned and emptied villages; tourism development has led to awareness raising of Georgia as a country having a development potential of mountain tourism that in its turn promotes attraction of financially reliable tourism segment; study has revealed those specific strengths or challenges, which encounter in regard to mountain tourism according to the regions, as well as traveler’s behavior preferences in the light of local or international tourists; Recommendations elaborated based on the research outcomes, which will promote travel business development, are represented in the work, as well.
