Chapter Chapter 12 in Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Global Financial Crisis on Development in Africa, 2026, pp 241-250 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly expanding field that affects many industries. While some view this new revolution as a boon to economies and their advancements, others argue that it is really the appropriate time to halt the advancement of artificial intelligence and take some time to consider its ethical implications. Because the non-profit nature of these high-tech organizations and artificial intelligence no longer suffices to uphold the values they stand for. Social economy organizations are generally wary of the development of these new technologies, in part for these reasons. However, their advancements in this economy have the potential to use technology to enhance social effects. However, their developments in this economy could put technology at the service of social impact. So, the question that arises is, what can artificial intelligence really bring to the field of the social and solidarity economy? This study aims to demonstrate the many potential contributions that artificial intelligence (AI) may make to the field of social and cooperative economy (ESS). However, its implementation must be accompanied by ethical policies that ensure respect for private life, equity, and social responsibility while ensuring that profits benefit society as a whole. In order to achieve this, we conducted an initial investigation into the notion of artificial intelligence as it is currently presented in contemporary literature, which was followed by a discussion of the benefits of artificial intelligence in the field of social and cooperative economy and, finally, the challenges faced by this latter in the social sphere.
