Abstract: Abstract This paper explores the innovative use of Extended Reality (XR) technologies at the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, focusing on the integration of cinematic virtual reality (VR) and immersive installations to enhance visitor engagement with cultural heritage. By combining Cinematic VR with an immersive tunnel, the museum transforms historical narratives into engaging, multisensory experiences that resonate with visitors: a dynamic 3D animation of Fergola’s painting transforms a static artwork into a living historical scene. This installation exemplifies how XR technologies can transcend traditional museum displays by merging visual storytelling with spatial interaction. The shift to immersive experiences, like the tunnel showcasing Fergola’s painting, is not just about technological innovation but also about creating emotional and intellectual connections to history in a way traditional exhibits may not.
