Abstract:
Abstract This paper explores how telehealth integration can enhance rural tourism competitiveness by improving visitor confidence, supporting digital nomads, and reinforcing destination branding. Using a case study from Agrafa, Greece, it examines a community-based telemedicine pilot that offers remote diagnostics to both residents and tourists. The study highlights telehealth’s role in expanding access to care, shaping mobility decisions, and fostering smart, health-secure destinations. It discusses technological, operational, and policy enablers for scaling such models, while also addressing limitations related to infrastructure, regulation, and sustainability. Findings contribute to EU-aligned strategies for rural revitalization, digital transformation, and sustainable tourism development.
