Abstract:
Abstract The paper examines the development of financial performance of Czech subsidiaries under the control of EU-listed companies during the period 2009–2014. Summary statistics of individual corporate data indicate that both the domicile of the parent and the Life insurance products have undergone dynamic changes in recent years. Capital life insurance has gradually been replaced by investment life insurance, which was popular at the time. Both types represent reserve-forming insurance, which is tax-advantaged as a retirement savings product. However, reserve-forming life insurance is subject to strict regulation, and its sales significantly declined after the 2018 regulatory changes. In recent years, the life insurance market has shifted toward risk life insurance, while other financial instruments are used for long-term savings. Despite this, tax support for investment life insurance remains in place. This raises the question of whether the sale of investment life insurance will gradually disappear or whether efforts should be made to maintain reserve-forming insurance in the market.
