A chapter in Technology Management for Intelligent, Open and Responsible Organizations and Ecosystems, 2026, pp 223-230 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This study explores the technological innovation dynamics of smart cities in Korea through patent data analysis, focusing on Sejong and Busan. Using a technology knowledge space approach and inventor-share allocation, we map regional specializations and identify convergence opportunities. Results show that Sejong excels in sensor-based infrastructure and traffic control technologies, while Busan demonstrates strengths in horticulture and marine-related technologies. By applying the revealed comparative advantage (RTA) index, we reveal complementary potentials for intercity collaboration. The study contributes a methodological framework for diagnosing smart city innovation and offers strategic insights for sustainable regional development through tailored technological convergence.
