A chapter in Technology Management for Intelligent, Open and Responsible Organizations and Ecosystems, 2026, pp 99-107 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Industrial companies must adopt sustainable practices in response to climate change, regulations, and societal expectations. Circular economy offers a solution by narrowing, slowing, and closing material loops. Implementing CE requires both technological innovation and structural changes within the organization. These changes require new or modified business processes aligned with CE principles. Given the complexity, companies are working together in Circular Value Networks (CVN) to implement the necessary processes for CE. However, research lacks a comprehensive understanding of the challenges of process design in CVNs. To address this, an interview study was conducted with thirteen experts from industry and consulting firms. The study identified ten key challenges in designing circular business processes and provided insights for future research to help companies plan and implement CE strategies.
