A chapter in Entrepreneurship and Human-Centric Business Strategies for Social and Economic Resilience, 2026, pp 985-999 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This study explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly ChatGPT, in academic and professional settings. It examines how students in higher education in Indonesia utilize ChatGPT, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and ethical implications. This study targeted Indonesian higher education students using a convenience sampling method, with surveys distributed in classrooms and university communication systems via a GDPR-compliant platform ensuring anonymity. Data from 14 survey questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics. ChatGPT usage varied, with most students using it rarely or occasionally (61%) and primarily for brainstorming, summarizing, and research assistance. While students acknowledged ChatGPT’s role in improving study efficiency and problem-solving, its impact on analytical reasoning, academic writing, and employability was limited. The findings highlight ChatGPT’s potential to enhance learning experiences by supporting academic content generation, summarization, and brainstorming, suggesting that institutions should integrate AI tools to aid students and researchers. Additionally, the study underscores the need for AI literacy programs and ethical guidelines to ensure responsible AI use while also recognizing AI’s broader applicability across various industries. The study is limited by its scope, focusing on short-term AI adoption. Further research should explore the long-term effects of AI on education, the development of ethical AI policies, and the comparative effectiveness of different AI models in academic contexts. This study contributes to the growing discourse on AI in education, providing insights into its practical applications.
