Chapter Chapter 6 in Understanding Cybersecurity Management in Healthcare, 2024, pp 97-120 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter provides crucial measures for detecting and protecting against cyberattacks in healthcare, with a focus on infrastructure security (infra-security) and healthcare app security. Key infra-security measures include robust firewalls, email security, antivirus software, access control, data loss prevention, and intrusion detection systems. Healthcare apps, despite their benefits for telemedicine and accessibility, pose significant privacy risks due to vulnerabilities like client-side injection, insecure connections, and weak cryptography. Implementing comprehensive security frameworks such as CIS Controls, HITRUST CFS, ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and PCI DSS is crucial for protecting sensitive patient data. Ensuring transparency, user privacy, and strong security protocols in healthcare apps is also vital. This chapter discusses the role of adopting these measures in ensuring data confidentiality, integrity, and availability and improving operational efficiency and trust amid increasing cybersecurity challenges.
