Abstract:
Abstract In the era of digital transformation, new opportunities for data-driven value creation are emerging. These opportunities can only be fully realized through collaboration, transforming individual companies and organizations into Constituent Systems (CS) of a higher level System-of-Systems (SoS), which can be systematically engineered or emerge arbitrarily. Without adequate control mechanisms, the development of SoS can lead to unmanageable complexity and undesirable dependencies. This work introduces a methodology to ensure the future viability of SoS and assist individual CS in their design decisions to avoid costly consequences. It presents the special traits of an SoS environment and a Reference Designation System (RDS)-based approach to address these challenges.
