Chapter Chapter 2 in Understanding Cybersecurity Management in the Construction Industry, 2026, pp 19-49 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examined the evolution of digital information management in construction, highlighting the revolutionary roles of Building Information Modeling, Common Data Environments, and smart technologies across the building life cycle. From planning to demolition, digitalization has enhanced efficiency, collaboration, and data handling but also introduced new cybersecurity and privacy risks. We explored how interconnected systems, IoT devices, and cloud platforms raise concerns around data ownership, regulatory compliance, and user awareness. The chapter highlights the necessity of proactive cybersecurity strategies, secure information governance, and greater digital literacy to protect sensitive data and ensure resilient digital construction environments.
