Chapter Chapter 7 in Regional Resilience to Climate and Environmental Shocks, 2020, pp 111-114 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This concluding chapter critically illustrates the evolution of the empirical analysis of regional resilience with respect to climatic shocks. The importance of having considered the presence of spatial interdependencies in analysing the response of regions to different types of external shocks is underlined. However, the authors also briefly define the new challenges for research in this field. First of all the construction of endogenous distance matrices, capable of re-modeling the interdependencies according to the changing effects the shocks exert on the observed geographical units. Another issue is represented by the need for developing new methods that may allow to explore the strength of spatial spillovers and peer effects under future different scenarios. Despite these caveats, finding appropriate ways of exploiting climate-economy projections can enhance the policy relevance of climate econometrics in general—and spatial climate econometrics in particular.
