New Stadiums in North America and Europe: A Comparison and Agenda for Future Research
Stefan Szymanski
A chapter in The Economic Impact of Sports Facilities, Franchises, and Events, 2023, pp 213-221 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In the last 30 years, there has been a significant increase in the construction of sports stadiums for professional teams in North America, and this expansion has been accompanied by the creation of a large research literature. This chapter argues that the expansion of investment in sports stadiums in Europe has been roughly comparable over the same period but that the research literature has been more patchy. The chapter identifies several ways in which this presents opportunity for future research.
