A chapter in Principles and Paradoxes of Sports Economics, 2024, pp 175-187 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is a celebration of the life and work of two of the most renowned sports economists in the world, Rodney Douglas Fort and James Patrick Quirk. Emanating from the prestigious California Institute of Technology, the two would forge a remarkable partnership over the course of 40 years. Originally collaborating as student and supervisor, the partnership was enduring and dynamic, crossing between subdisciplines in economics and various publishing outlets. The two would later continue to combine as colleagues, and more importantly friends, publishing some of the most important works in the field of sports economics. The contributions have been such that they have left a continuing mark on the subject and a legacy that will echo through sports economics in the decades ahead.
