Abstract: Abstract The following chapters present the direct economic effects of sport, i.e., the effects arising from economic activities within the sport industry itself. By contrast, indirect effects refer to impacts occurring in upstream or downstream sectors of the supply chain, or in other areas of the economy. First, the aggregate effects of sport on gross domestic product (GDP) are examined (Sect. 2.1). Then, a differentiated analysis of the effects of sport in various areas is provided: infrastructure investment (Sect. 2.2), sports consumption (Sect. 2.3), and the labor market (Sect. 2.4).
