Abstract:
Abstract This study investigates the differences in growth determinants in West African countries. Using the Pooled Mean Group estimator over the period 1985–2014, we find that determinants of economic growth vary across West African countries depending upon their level of income and the quality of their governance. The short-run analysis shows that growth determinants change considerably across countries. This study highlights the heterogeneity of West African countries in terms of growth determinants according to some of their characteristics. It shows income level and the quality of governance as two strong factors that need to be taken into account when elaborating community-oriented as well as individual country’s growth policies in the region.
