Abstract: Abstract The development of the BRI is expected to have a profound impact on Central Asian and Middle East countries not just because of its trade implication but also from a geopolitical standpoint. In the region, indeed, several countries confront to extend their respective role on the regional and international arena. China’s presence, with its massive financial and trade ties, reshuffles all current equilibria and reshapes the spheres of influence. Among other themes, this chapter discusses the recently relaunched relations between China and Russia trying to understand whether they can be deemed long-lasting or just a marriage of interest.
