Chapter Chapter 2 in Unemployment and the Informal Economy, 2022, pp 7-60 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Historical and economic studies indicate that people in all societies have long adapted their activities to the regulations of their contemporary economic system either not to violate these regulations or to avoid them. Thus, if we treat informal economic activities as the activities that are conducted by evading the regulatory norms established in a regulated economic system, then we can state that the informal economy is the same age as the formal economy because implementation of regulated economic systems in societies worldwide provides an incentive for members of a society to circumvent the regulations, especially if they appear too strict, unjustified, or unfair.
