Chapter Chapter 3 in The Complex Environments of Special Economic Zones, 2025, pp 25-40 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter aims to evaluate the current state of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), beginning with their objectives and global distribution and subsequently examining the governance models. Both the type of governance and the labour policies implemented in the special area can influence the effectiveness of the SEZ. Generally, the characteristics of the SEZ proposal and the host country, whose overall governance serves as the operational framework within which the SEZ operates, dictate the regulatory scope of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the governance model. Therefore, by examining the experiences of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) activated in various parts of the world, we can identify strengths and significant issues that aid in studying labour market problems in these places. The efficacy of a nation’s overall governance inextricably links to its capacity to generate and sustain development.
