Chapter Chapter 4 in National League Franchises: Team Performances Inspire Business Success, 2016, pp 27-33 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Sporting goods manufacturer Al Reach and attorney John Rogers, who jointly owned a professional baseball team in Philadelphia, were awarded a spot in the National League (NL) to replace the Worcester Brown Stockings—aka Ruby Legs—that folded in 1882. Initially nicknamed “Quakers” in 1983, the new NL club compiled a 0.173 winning percentage (17–81 win-loss record), the worst in franchise history.
