Abstract: Abstract Climate change (CC) is here to stay, and its effective governance requires sufficient attention to both mitigation and adaptation aspects on a continuing basis. Environmental factors affect and are affected by CC. The latter refers to the phenomena of significant variations–persistent for significant periods (decades or longer)- in the mean and variability of factors such as temperature, precipitation, and winds. It is not enough to recognize the potential rise in average global temperature over the years; increases in its variability resulting in weather extremities and related disasters should be of major concern. This points to the urgent role of CC adaptation (CCA). The need to enhance the positive role of international trade to gear up to the emerging requirements is as important as regulating trade to protect the environment.
