Chapter Chapter 1 in Transportation Systems Analysis, 2009, pp 1-27 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter defines transportation systems and identifies their main components and the interactions between them are presented. The basic assumptions made to analyze these systems are described through mathematical models that are briefly introduced and are described at length in later chapters. Finally, the “mission” of transportation systems engineering is reported. Its role in the wider and more complex decision-making process, as well as some of its typical application areas.
