Chapter Chapter 2 in Nonlinear Optimization Applications Using the GAMS Technology, 2013, pp 9-23 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we introduce the General Algebraic Modeling System – GAMS. It is a high- level algebraic modeling technology elaborated by the GAMS Development Corporation. It permits developing and solving linear or nonlinear mathematical programming models. In GAMS, optimization models can be introduced in a way similar to how they are presented in research papers or books. GAMS has the ability to solve large-scale linear programming problems, and integer linear programming problems, and to find local or global optima of nonlinear and mixed-integer programs of very different complexity.
