Abstract: Abstract We begin this chapter by stating several specific control problems, many of which will be studied in the book. Then we describe two main general problems of this book—the controllability problem and the optimal control problem. Finally, we recall some basic facts on smooth manifolds, vector fields, and Lie groups.
