A chapter in Open Problems in Optimization and Data Analysis, 2018, pp 61-82 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter discusses a class of optimization problems arising in supply chain planning in which a profit-maximizing producer may select from among a set of suppliers and/or customers. On the customer side, a set of potential customer or market demands is available to the producer, who may satisfy some subset of these demands. On the supply side, the producer must determine a subset of available suppliers to which it will allocate orders for production input requirements. We discuss the scope of existing models in this category of supply chain selection problems, as well as the limitations of these models, open problems within this class, and corresponding opportunities for further research in this area.
