Chapter 6 in Nonlinear Fractional Optimal Control, 2026, pp 95-122 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Time-delays occur in almost all real-life systems. The existence of time-delays often makes control and analysis of such systems much more difficult. In this chapter, we consider numerical solution of delay fractional optimal control problem involving a class of nonlinear time-delay systems and subject to state inequality constraints. For this problem, we present an explicit 2nd-order numerical scheme for the fractional time-delay systems, which gives rise to a series of discrete-time optimal control problems. Then, we develop a gradient-based optimization approach to solve the resulting discrete-time optimal control problems. Finally, numerical results obtained from solving four non-trivial example problems show that the proposed algorithm is highly effective.
