Abstract:
Summary Replacing and updating information systems in an organisation involves not just a technological change but also a potential change to the culture of the organisation. This is particularly true in organisations in which teams operate as individual units providing different services but are to an extent dependant upon other teams. Analysis of the changes engendered by new ways of working is extremely important, involving the understanding of each team’s culture in terms of the ways in which they operate and the values and norms that prevail. Short duration soft systems workshops, combining in an interactive manner an analysis of the human aspects in the situation with the technological and functional analyses, will, reduce the ‘soft risks’, facilitate cultural change and develop a sense of shared ownership of the changes.
