Chapter Chapter 2 in A General Topology Workbook, 1996, pp 19-22 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Let f be a mapping from a set E to a set E′. If A is a subset of E we use the notation f→(A) for the direct image of the subset A under f, i.e. the set consisting of the images f(a) of all points a in A. Again, if A′ is a subset of E′, we use f ← (A′) to denote the inverse image of A′ under f, i.e. the set of all points x of E for which the image f(x) lies in A′.
