Chapter Chapter 5 in New Foundations in Mathematics, 2013, pp 85-93 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The outer product of vectors is closely related to the concept of a determinant. The outer products of vectors and determinants are very important tools in the study of the structure of a linear transformation. A set of vectors is linearly independent if and only if the outer product of those vectors is not zero. Whereas a determinant is scalar valued, the outer product characterizes the oriented direction of the subspace spanned by the set of vectors.
