Chapter chapter 8 in Advanced Calculus, 1994, pp 265-356 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The so-called ‘vector calculus’ is not a separate calculus at all, but a particular notation for the calculus of three variables. Many physical quantities, notably force fields, flows, and gradients, are naturally imagined as vector fields, that is, as sets of arrows in xyz-space, one arrow to describe the quantity (of force, flow, or gradient) at each point of space.
