Abstract:
Abstract For most people in this country (me included) the war was a worri some, exciting, but remote series of news items—a couple of years were to pass before America became part of it and it started to affect our daily lives. In the meantime life went on as before. The depression was still with us, though it had begun to abate, bus drivers drove busses, doctors doctored, and the members of the Institute for Advanced Study did research.
