Abstract: Abstract In Chapter 3 we classified surfaces according to their Euler characteristic and orientability. In Chapter 5 we will explain the significance of the Euler characteristic. In the present chapter we do the same for orientability, and we also study further properties of this concept. Some of the ideas developed here resurface in Chapter 9.
