Chapter Chapter 4 in Developmental System, 1990, pp 91-120 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The model for developmental systems commented on in Chapters 2 and 3 is based on the idea that the development of a system is the result of elementary operations acting on its elements. It is in agreement with the following assumptions of cellular biology: (1) organisms are composed of cells, (2) each cell is derived from a preexisting cell and (3) a cell can give rise to at most two cells. This is the reason why it accounts for many facts concerning living organisms: quantitative growth, internal hierarchy, regeneration, cloning, mutation.
