Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines three Arabic writings based on the Archimedean circle measurement. We shall be concerned first with the question of sources: do the Arabic editors work with a version like AF (arguably assignable to Qustâ) or some other? are they familiar with Eutocius’ commentary? Second, we consider the nature of the editorial changes introduced: how do these editors affect the text of their source? what sorts of technical and metamathematical issues do they address in their amplifications of the basic Archimedean treatment?
