Chapter Chapter 4 in Textual Studies in Ancient and Medieval Geometry, 1989, pp 63-76 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The preceding chapters have surveyed the ancient texts of the Heronian and Philonian methods of cube duplication. While these texts have been transmitted in many places, our principal sources are the two collections of versions preserved in works of Pappus and Eutocius. We now examine these, beginning with Pappus’ texts in the present chapter and Eutocius’ in the next, for the insight they provide on the commentators’ use of sources.
