Chapter 8 in Fundamental Solutions for Differential Operators and Applications, 1996, pp 180-206 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The nonlinear Navier-Stokes equations, which conserve both mass and momentum, govern the motion of incompressible fluids. This system of equations describes, in general, all laminar and turbulent flows, although in order to predict turbulent behavior certain statistical averaging procedures, namely, the full turbulence simulation, large eddy simulation, and Reynolds average models, are used. The nonlinear mechanical behavior of fluids is studied through the development of the theories of simple (non-Newtonian) fluids which include viscoelastic, viscoplastic, and power-law polymeric materials and their rheological models.
