Abstract:
Abstract Mathematics plays a central role in the curriculum of any college or university. As a discipline it is not only of intrinsic value and, therefore, worthy of study as a major field, but it is also a generally accepted component of a liberal education, and is usually a portion of or at least an option in, the core or general education requirements for all degrees within an institution. In addition, the subject matter of mathematics--skills, techniques, ideas--provides essential building blocks for the study of an ever-widening set of other disciplines.
