Antoine Augustin Cournot

Th. Martin

A chapter in Statisticians of the Centuries, 2001, pp 152-156 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Unacknowledged in his own times as the founder of mathematical economics, Cournot was both mathematician and philosopher. He publicised the ideas of Bienaymé on the “variability of chances,” and subjected the probability calculus to a perspicacious philosophical critique.
