Abstract:
Abstract Let X and Y be two random variables with cumulative distribution functions F(x) and G(y) respectively. Let Y be the strength of a component subject to a stress X. Then the component fails if at any moment the applied stress (or load) is greater than its strength or resistance. Reliability of the component is then given by (1.1) $$ {\rm{R}} = {\rm{P}}({\rm{X}}
