Abstract:
Abstract In 1976, the food color additive most widely used in the United States, Red 2, was banned as a possible carcinogen. The Food and Drug Administration based its action on statistical analysis of an experiment which involved feeding different levels of Red 2 to five different groups of rats: the number of malignant tumors discovered was significantly higher in rats fed high levels of Red 2 than in those fed lower levels.
