Abstract: Abstract All but a few of the existing Statistics and Biostatistics departments have been created within the past 50–60 years. In many departments, the founders and the movers and shakers who fostered the growth of the department have been retiring and gradually leaving us. As an unfortunate consequence, the institutional memory of the early days of many departments is disappearing rather rapidly. This book is designed to capture the information about the development of academic departments that were founded by the mid-1960s in the U.S.
