Chapter Chapter 1 in Handbook on the History of Mathematics Education, 2014, pp 3-8 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter first outlines the development of the historiography of mathematics education from its beginnings in the nineteenth century and the thematic focus of published studies. While for a long time the studies were pursued within the realm of the national history of education, over the last decades a growing emphasis was placed on international and comparative aspects and approaches. The chapter next discusses connections with neighboring disciplines such as history, history of education, sociology, and history of mathematics.
